🍇 Mick and David Morris
Charles Henry “Mick” Morris returned to Rutherglen for his first official vintage as winemaker in 1953 after university study. He helped develop Durif as a dry table wine, adding to a regional reputation strongly associated with fortified wines. His son David became the fifth-generation winemaker in 1993, combining inherited stocks and knowledge with later techniques. The family history shows continuity without implying that nothing changed: education, wine styles and methods developed across generations. Their local association is the sustained work of the winery and vineyard, where decisions made in one decade can remain important to wines blended and bottled much later.
🍷 Mandy and Arthur Jones
Mandy and Arthur Jones took over their uncle Les’s Rutherglen winery in 1998, bringing different skills to a family property with a long vineyard history. Mandy’s winemaking included fourteen years in the Bordeaux region, alongside scientific and culinary study. Arthur contributed agricultural and mechanical knowledge to the vineyard and business. Her own account recalls initially resisting expectations that she would follow her winemaker father, considering petrochemicals before travel helped redirect her interests. The eventual return gave that experience a local purpose: making wine from the family’s dry-grown vineyard, with the next generation later joining the enterprise.
