1. John McEwen (1900-1980)

John McEwen was an Australian politician who served as the 18th Prime Minister of Australia from December 1967 to January 1968. He was born in Chiltern, near Rutherglen, and began his political career in the Australian Country Party (later renamed the National Party of Australia). McEwen made significant contributions to Australian agriculture and rural development during his tenure as Minister for Trade and Industry and as Deputy Prime Minister. He was a highly respected figure in Australian politics.

2. Sir Isaac Isaacs (1855-1948)

Sir Isaac Isaacs was an Australian lawyer, politician, and the first Australian-born Governor-General of Australia. He was born in Yackandandah, near Rutherglen, and later went on to have a successful legal career, serving as a judge in the High Court of Australia before becoming the Governor-General in 1931. Isaacs made significant contributions to the development of the Australian legal system and played a crucial role in the formation of the Australian nation.

3. Cate Blanchett (born 1969)

Cate Blanchett is an internationally acclaimed Australian actress and theatre director. Although born in Ivanhoe, Melbourne, Blanchett and her family moved to Rutherglen when she was young. 4. Sir Russell Drysdale (1912-1981)

Sir Russell Drysdale was an Australian artist known for his distinctive and iconic paintings depicting the Australian outback and rural life. Born in Bognor Regis, England, Drysdale moved to Australia at a young age and grew up in the Rutherglen area. His works, characterized by their sparse and isolated landscapes, have become synonymous with the Australian identity. Drysdale received several prestigious awards for his contributions to Australian art and is considered one of the country's most significant artists.

5. Colin Carter (born 1944)

Colin Carter is an Australian rules football player, coach, and administrator. Born in Rutherglen, Victoria, Carter played for the Geelong Football Club in the Victorian Football League (now known as the Australian Football League). After retiring as a player, Carter served as the coach and later as the president of the Geelong Football Club. He was highly influential in the development of the Australian Football League Players' Association and made significant contributions to the sport both on and off the field.
